The grand unveiling…

Back in October we posted a sneak peek of two very beautiful individuals in several unusual locations from a lil’ shoot which will always stand out as a magical experience on so many levels. In that post I announced that there was something big that revolved around this shoot. Today I am happy to share exactly what it is, but first I want to share a few details, give a few shout outs and just let everyone know how lucky we feel to be doing something we truly love and to be working with so many wonderful and genuinely extraordinary people.

For years now Jason has been bugging me about doing a video of ourselves at work to help shed a little light on who we are and how we work. Something that he felt was important for potential clients interested in booking us. I am a bit camera shy and was unsure about how, who, what, when, where… then one day while reading my dear friend Kate’s blog, I came across Paul Frederick. It wasn’t in the best of ways considering that it was because he had put together an incredible slide show in memory of Kate’s beloved, but still, through our tears we wanted to see more of what Paul had to offer. We visited his website and blog and we were simply amazed. His work was some of the best we’d ever seen. And not just for the “area”. He is the best in general. Period. This sparked the video idea once again in Jason’s mind, and I started to warm up a bit…

Fast forward to August and we had just recently photographed  Stephanie and Mike’s wedding and we were on or way to their family shoot. On the way we got on the topic of the video once again. Not sure how it came up, but we were discussing how it would be awesome if Stephanie and Mike could be the couple… the ones for our video. They are gorgeous, and that is obvious, but this video would be something very important for us and we wanted everyone involved to be people we truly liked. People who are fun, have great chemistry and shared an appreciation for good photography. These two fit the bill and that day during our shoot we realized that they were all that and so much more. They were energetic, full of great ideas and busting with personality. They love and respect each other to no end and that is reflected in their gorgeous daughter, Makenna. In short, we liked them. During our shoot we threw the idea out there. They accepted…

From there we contacted Paul and found out that the man himself was actually as great as his art and definitely someone we would be proud to work with. We started planning locations and discussing them with Stephanie, who had plenty of helpful and creative input, and Paul, who is just so wonderful and helped so much as well. We decided on a few colorful out-of-the-box locations and started making the phone calls. Miraculously, everyone agreed to allow us into their businesses to do our shoot. Cornerstone Book Store, North Bowl Lanes,Washland the Koffee Kat were all so wonderful. Not only did they allow us, but they were so kind in doing so.

Next came the search for the perfect music to accompany our video. We wanted something upbeat, fresh and fun. We searched everywhere. Then we remembered back to one of our first mall trips after having our daughter, Lola. At the time our son, Milo, was just over a year and Lola, only a few weeks, so we did what we always did back then and headed down to Borders at feeding time so I could sit in one of the big chairs with Lola while the boys walked around the book store. On that particular day, Jason and Milo were happy to find that a band called ElephantBear was playing just as we came in. They sounded great and Milo was loving it! After Milo discovered that it was customary to clap at the end of a song, he made it his duty to be their biggest fan that day. From my chair around the corner all I could hear was song, song ending, crazy clapping and then laughter from the band. I know that I probably was still on a hormone induced emotional roller coaster, but somehow it really touched me that day that this band of young men could appreciate and acknowledge my tiny son taking an interest in their music. We thought of that and we revisited their website. As soon as we heard “Gonna Make You Say Wow” I knew it had to be the song. Again Jason made the phone call and again they were so kind…

Since then we’ve photographed Paul’s family, viewed the video for the first time, shared it with those involved, and now I am proud to be sharing it with all of you! Enjoy!

Paul Frederick - Such kind words Vanessa! I was honored to be a part of your video. Stephanie and Mike were great as were all the locations, but I was really amazed at how you and Jason work together! It’s one of those things you need to see in order to appreciate. You both work amazingly well together, each with your own ideas and yet, coming together harmoniously, and sometimes silently, to get the perfect shots. One feeding off the other with not a minute wasted, real creative energy abounds as you both work the scene! As a budding still photographer, I was in awe, and continue to be, by your amazing talent and passion for your craft! We LOVE our pictures and can’t thank you enough.
